Several years ago, as some of you may remember, the drain pipe from the kitchen sink leaked and destroyed my kitchen before the leak was discovered. We are so far removed from everything that we can't get contractors to come out here. By the time we were finally able to finish the kitchen ourselves, almost a year later, I swore I would never take on another home project. Well.....last night, I discovered that the inside unit of our HVAC unit has been leaking and water has traveled down the hall and into several rooms underneath the laminate flooring. I honestly don't know if I can take on another project. The way I feel right now, we may very well be living with the concrete slab as flooring.

Lynsee, very sorry that happened. My daughter had something similar happen a couple years ago. No fun! Once you recover, though, be sure and get a float switch for your HVAC. Hopefully you have the unit sitting in a pan. A float switch will cause the unit to shut off if condensate starts backing up in the pan before it can repeat what happened to you today .

Water is certainly damage EVERYTHING it sits on, or hides in. Hope it all will work out for you and fast!

Thanks! I probably wouldn't have been so over the top about it, but I am barely two weeks post surgery and we are knee deep in recital rehearsals and set work, so the timing couldn't have been worse! Good news is there was nothing major wrong with the unit and the laminate is up--revealing the most hideous linoleum floor ever!--so the water should not do any more damage!

Sorry this happened, Lynzee. I remember the nightmare with your kitchen, so I feel for you now. Glad the unit is OK-good news on that, anyway.

Thanks, Rosemary! I think it's a sign. This is the third time we've had to face a major project due to a water leak. I honestly think it's time to be movin' on...

Aw, Lynzee, I'm sorry to hear about this. I'm glad you found it when you did, though. You'd think there would be so many under-employed contractors out there right now that they'd jump at the chance to go someplace even out of the way to get some work. Hope all goes well with the rest of the clean up and with all the activities you're involved with.

Hugs to you Lynzee, water damage is "silent". Ugg, been there with our kitchen floor several years ago. I will never put laminate in my home again, as much as I pondered back and forth when we did it, I could kick myself in the butt for going with it. I agree, I don't know why people won't expand their work area when they are surely low on work. Good luck!

So sorry you have to go through this again. Our house flooded many years ago when we were on vacation. It was awful, so I can definately understand what you are going through. Hang in there, there is light at the end of the tunnel
