I found a cute little wagon at a garage sale. We are leaving everything natural, so I did not want to put real flowers in the wagon. For years we spent hours mowing, weeding, etc. We have scrub brush, pinion pines, pine trees, etc. We have decided not to plant anything (except veggies). Love our natural environment. We are hoping that we sprout some desert flowers. Just up the road from us is Rainbow Canyon, and the wild desert flowers are starting to bloom. Really really beautiful. At our little dollar store, they have these cute metal flowers, butterflies, etc on metal stakes. Hubs put a piece of wood in the wagon, drilled holes, and than I put in an assortment of metal flowers, etc. Here is a pic of my little metal garden on my front porch Attachments:

Have you guys noticed that the last 5 posts or so are all spam? Do you want me to clear those out and ban the posters, or do you want to just leave them? What's everyone up to this summer? I'm about to take a class but did just finish installing baseboard molding upstairs all by myself. I ended up buying myself my own power miter saw and miter saw table and a nail gun, both of which turned out to be very helpful. I'm thinking of making myself some picture frames this summer when I'm done with the class I'm taking. I have some very large grave rubbings I did 20 years ago when I went to England that I've never had framed because it's just so expensive. I use them when I teach about the middle ages, and I don't want them wrecked, so I thought I'd make my own frames. They don't have to be great, just protective. I've never made frames before. I'm thinking I may have to invest in a tool that helps hold the corners at the right angle while they dry. I have some little pictures that some of my students made for me this year (2 pictures of Edgar Allan Poe and two grave rubbings...my students "get" my dark side!) that I'd like to fashion a frame for if I can figure it out. Most of my "art" is pages torn out of calendars and stuff, so I usually just buy dollar store frames, but they're only available in limited sizes. What do you think?

Sorry I have not been on here in a while. Yes, I think the spam should be deleted and the user banned. Otherwise it just junks up the board. I love grave rubbings!!! I spend hours in cemetarys when I come across them. Especially love old cemetarys. So much history and yes, love, there. Hubs finds it creepy, but I feel comfort. Making frames and doing moulding is fun, but complicated. Takes a lot of practice to get the right angles. Hubs loves to do moulding, but not frames. Have been crazy busy at our new house. Did a ton of stuff inside. New appliances, painted all baseboards, replaced faucets, sinks, toilets, light fixtures, ceiling fans. Outside, painted all facia board and trim on both house and garage. Planted 4 crepe myrtle trees, 2 choke cherry trees, 2 apple trees, and two eating cherry trees. All of my crepe myrtle are in bloom. So pretty next year we are going to plant plum, pear and peach. We are settled here now and it is home. Adjusted to very very small town living. Everyone knows your business, but they also will drop everything to help you out. Once you become a member of the community you are embraced 150%. Love Lincoln County:) what is up with everyone else?

Hello Everyone, I can not believe it is the end of July already. I went to Florida, Treasure Island, last week.It was a relaxing beach vacation. Austin and I drove down, Ashley flew down for 4 days. It went so fast. It seems like I am always busy. Work full time, clean the church 2 evenings per week, and trying to keep up with things. Ugg no wonder I am in bed at 9 every night. Ashley and I did paint our front porch on Memorial weekend and do some outside work. It was almost 5 weeks ago that my neighbors were in a terrible car wreck. Someone crossed the center line and hit them headon. She came out with minor injuries, but her hubby had a broken leg in 4 places, a shattered hip, a fractured other foot, and some damage to his lower spine. He has been in rehab for 3 weeks and is coming home on Monday, non weight bearing. He will be in a wheelchair until he is healed from the damages. I have been doing what I can for them after work. He has a long long road ahead of him. They are super people and I am very proud of our neighborhood at how we have all stepped up to help them out. My hubby is doing okay. He is still working and will retire in 1 year when he turns 65 and can get on Medicare. I am still at the nursing home, really liking my job, just not the politics of it. Austin is an LPN at a long term care center, and Ashley is the assistant manager of Shoe Sensations, still trying to find a job in Texas so she can move and be with her boyfriend. He actually graduated from college in May with a bachelors in biology/minor in premed and chemistry. Gosh I wish I was that smart. . She is hoping he finds a good job soon, so she can move down there and they can start making plans to get married, which is what they want to do. So that pretty much sums up life in NW Ohio. It has been in the 90's and humid, pretty typical. Great to hear from you all!

Hi Marie sounds like you had a nice beach vacation we have been busy here in nevada. We enclosed part of our front and back porches. We put up cedar lattice and framed it all with redwood. Turned out great. It shaded a section of our front porch and shaded our hot tub on our back porch. Weather has been really nice. Expecting thunderstorms by this afternoon High is only 82 today. Last night we had some amazing lightning. We get a lot of dry lightning. We have a rodeo coming up next weekend in the little town next to us. That should be fun! Otherwise we are enjoying retirement and exploring the ghost towns of nevada.

I love thunderstorms. We almost never have them where I live. I was in Montana last month attending a seminar, and the first night we got in there was a thunderstorm. I opened the motel window and sat in front of it to watch and listen to the storm for three hours or so until it moved on. What fun! There was almost no rain with it, just a few sprinkles, so I could smell that scent that always arises when it first rains after an extended dry spell. It was very nice (unlike the motel, which was a dump). I just finished putting a coat of paint on the baseboards I installed in my bedroom last month. Now I can get my bedroom back in order and my clothes put away before school starts again. Next school year is going to be very, very busy for me, so I want to make sure I have all my home stuff organized and ready to go before school starts. I start taking a class on the Civil War in early September. It'll be my seventh of nine required classes before I write my Master's thesis. I have to write a 30 page research paper for this class, and I'm kind of hoping it will be the basis of my thesis so that I'll have basically a third of the paper done. I'm not sure, though. We'll see how it goes. I'm looking forward to decorating for fall this year. Last year my fall decorating was pretty owl-intensive. I might go with that theme again this year. Have you noticed that foxes have kind of stolen the decorating show these days? It's a clever idea. Of course, I can't decorate with foxes because I have all these chickens. It wouldn't be safe. I noticed that foxes are the fall theme also. Our dollar store has some really cute fox and owl dishes and accessories for fall. I am thinking about getting some. I sold all my xmas and fall decorations when we sold our house in calif. Just did not have room to bring them. Plus I got tired of packing!!! I kept it very simple this past fall and christmas. Did not decorate at all for fall and only a small tree and some pinecones in a glass container for christmas. We will be here a year on november 5th. I cannot believe how fast the year has gone. Since we are now all settled, I am going to decorate for fall and get a few more things for xmas. We have twinkle lights on both patios,.so that is already done. No other outside lights or decorations. Our stars up here are enough. We see the milkyway every night. I love living in the middle of nowhere! We are going to be taking out the carpet in our livingroom and hallway next spring. Will replace with carpet tiles. Easy to maintain and durable. I would preFer wood, but my dogs are all getting older and have a hard time walking on wood. We also get fairly cold winters and carpet is warmer. Last winter we got down to -17!!!

I'd love to live in the middle of nowhere as long as Amazon could find me and I had a reliable internet connection. I have visions of living on a small but bear-free lake somewhere. Right now I'm surrounded by trees of every kind, and as I live in a city (albeit a relatively small one with only about 104,000 people in it) there's too much light pollution to see the Milky Way. Make sure you send pics of your fall decorating. I love to see what people are doing. Pier One has a nice set of plates for fall with animals (including, I think, a fox, a squirrel, an owl, and something else....not sure what). I might break down and buy them even though I do almost no entertaining and have all the plates I need (and many I don't need). I'm supposed to be reading the books for the Civil War class I'm taking in September, but I binge-watched Amazon Prime for the last couple of evenings instead. I made it all the way through the first season of Mercy Street (but at least it's about the civil war) and part of season one of Mr. Robot, which I'm finding to be pretty unrelentingly bleak. I spent some time today working on the stairs, where I'm installing flooring and trying to hide some of the great big holes they left in the drywall when they initially installed carpet. Who on earth thinks it's a good idea not to install drywall all the way to the end of the wall? What if someone in the future wants to install a wood floor instead of a carpet? They they have to figure out how to patch a hole! I'm certainly learning how to do a host of home improvement tasks I never intended on learning. I guess this will be the year I learn to patch drywall!

Hi Ladies, Sounds like you all have been busy. I can't believe it is the end of August already. Not much new going on here. It has been in the 90's for the past few weeks. Ugg that NW Ohio weather. Friday night Dave, Ashley and I played Daniel Boone and cut out a bunch of limbs from our back tree. Now to get up on the roof and finish and then work on the front trees. My flowers have mostly died. I never do good at flowers anymore. Not sure why. I think I will just get a few mums and plant and replace. We have a really dry summer, then it got hot. Last week we had tornadoes touch down about 15 miles from us. It was a little scary, although we were totally missed with the storm. Have a good week.
