It is 2 years ago that I started my Medical Records job. I really like it. I don't like the politics of it. I am Medical Records at a long term care center. We are on budget for 132 residents. When I started the job, the budget was 128 residents. We have been struggling to keep census at 132. Last summer the Administrator was fired, and the DON left. We went without an Administrator for about 4 months and without a DON. We now have a new administrator of about 5/6 months, and a new DON (2nd one) for 2 weeks. Last April my co-worker that does Central Supply went on maternity leave. I had to do her job during this time. No overtime was allowed. I got so far behind in my own work. The new administrator questioned me as to "Why" I was behind in certain things because when she was here before (yep, she was administrator for a couple years approximately 5 or so years ago and now she is back)Frank did both jobs. Well, Frank doing both jobs is why Frank left. He told me he begged for help and they would not give it to him. He left, the job was split into 2 parts. Medical Records full time and Central Supply 3 days per week. I can tell you there is no way for one person to do both jobs in 40 hours and how things are done and responsibilities have changed in the past 2 years.
So guess what, I am back to doing both jobs again. Our scheduler went on maternity leave, Central Supply went to be Scheduler and I was told I would be "helping" out. No problem, I am a team player. Unfortunately the "helping" has turned into doing it all which means once again I am getting behinder and behinder if that is even a word. I am so frustrated, especially on Wednesday's when the truck comes in and I have to unload pallets of supplies, put them away, pass the briefs, and fill supply closets. It takes me a day and a half to do that all. So basically I am doing "my job" about 2 days per week and Central Supply 3 days per week. Hmm.
I never worked in an environment like this before. I was actually cut hours 5 weeks ago to 35 because our census was low. I was so mad. I was given my 40 hours back when the girl went on maternity leave. What does corporate/bosses expect to happen when you cut hours or load someone with another job on top of your regular responsibilities. Of coarse I will get behind. On top of that our dining changed and now I am serving breakfast to residents for 1.25 hours each morning verses the 30 minutes before. They just want more and more out of a person. And you never ever get any extra time. I am lucky to keep my 40 hours. Sometimes I wish those who dictate hours/work, etc, would actually come and do a job and see how it is really done and how much time is involved.
Thank you for listening to me vent!
