Thought I'd try to post a photo, too. This arrangement and "button" picture is from my Mom's room in the assisted living facility where she now lives. I took the pic last week when much of the family got together to celebrate her 90th birthday (and yes, she was still able to blow out her candles on the cake!). My wife made the floral arrangement from flowers from our yard, and my daughter-in-law did the "monogram" H from old buttons mostly from Mom's mother's button jar. (back during depression days, every family had a button jar. If a garment could no longer be repaired, certainly the buttons were kept for repairs that might be needed on something else later on. The idea of just tossing something usable -- even old buttons -- just was not what folks did during those lean years). Attachments:

You've got some talented ladies in your life, Allen! That button picture is adorable. How awesome is it to have enough flowers in your yard that you can fill up a whole pitcher with them? I'd love that. My friend's dad, who also lives in Tennessee, turned 90 this year and is still going strong. He's dating, driving, living alone, and even does needlepoint. It must be something in the air there that supports such longevity. Maybe I'd better move. I love buttons, and the idea of making a picture out of them is fun. I don't have nearly the collection you have, though. I can remember my mom having plastic bags full of buttons (also a holdover from the Depression). I still have some of them in my own sewing basket. Maybe I'll use them on a lampshade or something.
