Anyone ever have bats make a home in their attic? We moved into our home (over 200 years old), and recently found out we have bats in our attic. I've contact our area wildlife office and they said to let them be until September when any "pups" are able to fly. After this time period we can button up things to make sure they can't re-enter. To be honest I'm a little FREAKED out , but am willing to abide by the wildlife laws in our area. I sealed the door leading up to the attic (bats don't chew thru things). They seem to be just in one attic part (there are 3 attic areas).... Anyone else?

Ooh. Bats in the belfry! That's kind of cool. We have bats in the area, but I've never seen them in the house (which is good since they carry rabies). Maybe next year after they've been moved out you can put a bat house outside somewhere so they can eat your bugs without invading your attic. Personally, I'd rather find bats than bees, though.

Shabbychick- Ha! Bees rank right up there with bats for critters I could live without in my house! We are considering a bat house near their entry so they can make that their home.

We have had a bat in our house. I think it came down the chimney. I heard a noise, opened the hall door where the furnace was.....and it came flying out at 2am in the morning. Shut myself in Ashley's room screaming for Dave. The bat landed on the ceiling fan and he grabbed it and threw it outside. He got heck for that too.
When I was a kid, we had bats in the house many times. Mom always got a brook after them, or a tennis racket and bopped them.
Good luck on getting them out.

EEK!!! We have bats in our area and they must have been a problem for the previous owners because all of the exterior vent openings are covered with screen on the inside. Several have made a home in one of the large attic vents, but my husband swears they can't get inside. I hope he's right!

Lynzee- I had taped up any opening, crack, crevice to avoid having one of those little critters get into the house....

Ooooh ick! I have never had bats. Thanks heavens. But we did have a loose pet hamster chew through the flooring and go under our house and live there for a couple weeks. It was awful. Hamsters are nocturnal. It was up all night chewing on something (ick), under our bedroom floor. Freaked me out hearing it chew away. It finally climbed back out and one day when I was in the bathroom, it climbed in the back of our bathroom vanity and pushed open the bottom drawer while I was, ahem, on the throne :-[I screamed and slammed the drawer. Unfortunately the little hamster did not make it I did not tell my daughter. To this day she thinks the hamster just ran away

Poor hammy.... But hey, I have always had this fear of "something coming up from the toilet.....yikes! We had a hamster once that got out too. At night we heard it in the utility room register and we were able to get it out. I don't know why we ever got hamsters, or rabbits for Ashley......dogs are so much better for a pet. lol
